Should You Pull Robin or Topaz in Honkai Star Rail 2.2?

Honkai Star Rail Version 2.2 will feature the new character Robin and Topaz, who is getting her first rerun. Choosing between them can be difficult, especially when both are good. With limited Jades and low odds of getting a 5-star, we need to choose wisely. But before we answer the main question, let’s see what Robin and Topaz actually do.

Robin and Topaz function very differently from each other. Robin is a support unit that boosts the team’s overall damage. However, Topaz is a follow-up attack DPS that deals massive damage when built properly. Both have some pros and cons that one should be aware of before pulling for them.

Robin and Topaz will be available during phase 1 of Version 2.2, from May 8, 2024, to May 29, 2024. Within this time period, players will be able to pull for both characters and their respective Light Cones. After the banners expire, both characters might rerun later.

Pull Robin If You Lack Good Supports

Robin Honkai Star Rail
Robin

Robin is a versatile support for any team, especially follow-up attack-oriented teams. She can provide great offensive buffs and forward the turn of allies. Her buffs scale off ATTACK, which can increase a team’s overall damage. She also boosts damage by providing a guaranteed CRIT DMG and follow-up attack buff.

This means that even while she can be put in regular teams, her full kit will outshine with follow-up attack units like Dr. Ratio and Topaz. Robin is, however, a lot similar to the other top-tier supports like Ruan Mei and Sparkle. Even though they provide different buffs with their skills and ultimates, their overall support potential is similar.

So, if you are lacking Ruan Mei or Sparkle, don’t miss out on Robin. She might be a game-changer. However, if you already have them, then she might not provide much value.

Topaz Works Only in Follow-up Attack Teams

Topaz

Topaz is a DPS character, unlike Robin. She acts differently than any regular DPS, as her damage comes from follow-up attacks executed by her pet warp trotter, Numby. She can somewhat act as a support, increasing the damage of follow-up attacks that enemies receive.

She is fairly easy to build. Give her the 4-pc Ashblazing Grand Duke set with a good CRIT Ratio (preferably 60:120), a large amount of attack, and speed to act as many times as possible in a turn. However, there are some cons.

Topaz is a HUNT character, i.e. a single target DPS, which means she will be slower when fighting against multiple waves of enemies. To overcome the problem, she needs to be paired with another follow-up attack character, like Dr. Ratio, Adventurine, Herta, or Himeko. Herta can be obtained from Simulated Universe, and Dr. Ratio was given for free to all players for a while.

If you already have any of the previously mentioned supports and any other follow-up attack unit, Topaz might be an option for you.

I hope that this answers the question. If you have any other doubts feel free to comment below. Good luck with your pulls!
